Tokyo Craft Market March 2024

Tokyo Craft Market March 2024

In a world rapidly advancing towards digitalisation and online shops, the essence and experience of traditional crafts are sometimes being forgotten. Recognizing this shift, Kesapasa will organise its second live craft market in Tokyo, a unique opportunity to delve into the world of traditional Japanese crafts originating from the Edo Period. Learn, touch, feel and create under the guidance of trained artisans who are more than happy to share what they have learned during their intense training.

Experience.

At our event, visitors will have the rare chance to experience these crafts firsthand! Under the guidance of trained artisans, who have dedicated their lives to mastering these crafts, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of each craft. We will have our artisans present who are not only the masters of their craft but also very passionate about sharing their knowledge to a new audience, making this event a rare opportunity to learn from the very best.

You will have the unique chance to witness the intricate processes behind traditional Japanese crafts originating from the Edo Period!

Witness and Learn.

One of the event's highlights are the live demonstrations by the artisans themselves. These live sessions are designed to provide you with an in-depth look into the fascinating and historical world of traditional Japanese crafts. Each artisan went through a long journey to finally master their craft, eager to explain their personal and craft's lineage.

As artisans explain the history behind their crafts, they will simultaneously showcase the entire process of creating their items. This ranges from showcasing the complete process of creating a woodblock print, to the design and dyeing of a traditional noren curtain. Watching a handmade product come to life helps us getting a better understanding and more appreciation for the patience, skill and effort involved in these crafts.

Take this chance to ask all your questions, delve deeper into all aspects of the craft and discuss their journey to mastering their craft.

Market.

Beyond the workshops, the event features an artisan marketplace. Here you can purchase unique, one of a kind, handmade items directly from the artisans! A rare chance to ask them all your questions and learn how the items are made. Besides it being an opportunity to acquire beautiful handmade crafts, you also have the chance to support the artisans and the preservation and continuation of these age-old crafts.
